Wow - thanks so much, Stephanie! I hope you had fun judging your first show! ;D I enjoy judging - I think it's wonderful to see other people's horses. I has helped me a lot with my photos. Cheers, Kay

Your welcome! It wasn't hard -- 98% of the horses in this division were yours! LOL! Thanks for giving me some pics to look at. Your guys are nice and they can be hard to chose between......
But yes, I can see how judging will help with your own photos....it is changing my perspective a little already and I still have the other 2 divisions to go. I'm mostly done with the CM / AR division now, 5 classes to go and the champs left to pick. Then I will post them and do the Breyers.

I thought the pic of Nike was quite nice. I almost marked it lower because it is a little dark, a little out of focus and the face is somewhat turned away from the "viewer", but I could not get this picture out of my mind! He looked real to me, the whole scene looked real and I could believe I was looking a real scene and not a model in front of a backdrop. And I found myself wondering what NIke was looking at. A long time photo judge once told me that 2 of the things she looks for (beside the obvious breed/color/gender stuff), was a photo where she feels she 'wants to be there--in the photo/scene, with the horse or admiring it in person'. She also felt the 'background should match the horse' within reason. In otherwords, photos that tell interesting, inviting stories. And boy, was Nike talking to me on judging day! He still is! If you work on getting him better focused and show his lovely head off a bit more, maybe crop a bit closer so he was a bit larger, ect, then I think his chances in a larger show would be quite nice. Nice model /photo/ and set up though.....congrats!

Hey everyone, the results for the CM/AR division should be posted by Tuesday night. Breyer results should be up by Wednesday night. I had hoped to do it sooner, but had to work a lot more over the last 3 days than I expected.

Thanks for the results, that's the first time 'DP How Original' has ever placed. ;D As for the pinto ASH thing, I did research before I chose that breed and pinto markings are accepted for ASH registery. I've seen several paints in the ASH classes (always huge down here! ;D) at shows, hence why I decided to give her that breed. Here's a overo ASH stallion that is registered with several societies. vpstud.com/stallions/stallionvpwatchmyduco.htmlI have a TB mare (a real one ;D) that I have registered with the ASH society in Australia as breeding stock only, and I remember seeing a section on the form to enter information on pinto markings. Anyway, I'll just put a reference when I enter her in future shows. Oh, and you're the second person to spell her name wrong in the results - lol! ;D It's 'DP Good Ash It Getz' hee hee American Saddlebreds can be Blue Roan, any colour is accepted - I should know! hee hee ;D ;D

April, pleeeeease give me the link to blue roan ASB! I have a few of those myself, but everytime I entered them in other shows, they always got DQ'd for unacceptable colors. I finally gave up trying to find a link for one. I tried again while judging my show, but still could not find anything. Pitty......
Thanks for the picture on the pinto ASH---I just learned about this breed and of the 4 links I found, only one listed colors for them (all solids) and none of the links showed pictures for pinto. I really don't know why I questioned you though since you live there and are probably surrounded by them! LOL! They are rare here in the States. I still think your guy would be a knock out in tovero Paint horse class though!
Hmm.....I'm going to take longer judging the Breyer section to guard against more 'complications'. Oh, learning curves are hard....but it's fun to learn new things. :0)
Thanks!
Cheers Stephanie.

Complications? No way! It's all part of judging! ;D No worries about my ASH, I want to show her as an Aussie bred stock horse - I don't mind if she never places because of it!! ;D Any colour/pattern is acceptable for an American Saddlebred. Blue Roan is rare but not impossible. Saddlebreds are one of only a few purebred breeds that accept all colours, including roans. ;D Taken from wikipedia - "True or classic roan is most common in European draft breeds like the Brabant, Ardennes, Trait Du Nord, Italian Heavy Draft and Rhenish-German Cold-Blood though it is found regularly in Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, Dales Ponies, Welsh Ponies, and Miniature horses and very rarely in Trakehners and American Saddlebreds. True or classic roan has not been satisfactorily identified in Arabians or Thoroughbreds. Despite this, Thoroughbreds and Arabians with roan-like coats may be registered as "roan." " "Saddlebreds are usually black, bay, chestnut, or brown, but grays, buckskins, palominos, pintos and occasionally roans are also found." I then found this from another site.... "The true roan gene appears in some breeds more than others. Roans are commonly found in Quarter Horses, American Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walking Horses, Connemara Ponies, Miniature horses, American Paint Horses, Welsh Ponies (though rarely, if ever, in Welsh Cobs) and Shetland Ponies. There are only two roan Morgan horses known to be alive today, a gelding and an aged mare, so the color is probably at a dead end in that breed." One says they're rare, the other says they're common - either way they're possibe. I think it's simply that one has not been able to find roan ASBs, while the other has. These 2 horses are true Blue Roan (and white) Saddlebreds. They're actually half-brothers, which goes to show you that they are rare but possible. Just because chestnuts, bays etc are most common doesn't mean that there are no studs specialising in the rarer colours. Anyway, I could blabber about saddlebreds all day - I have work to do unfortunately!

wow, your amazing April! Thanks! Next time I have a question about anything breed/color wise, I'll ask you about it if I can't find an good link for it.
I'm still confused though.....I've always been told in the past that rare breeds/colors should have links shown with them to educate the judge--since one person can't possibly know everything. My confusion comes from what is considered a "good link". I was told my different people/groups that it ideally should be a breed registry/association , aka 'official breed site' for the link to be 'valid'. Now I'm wondering if I was misinformed.... I mean can any site, esp. one with pictures showing your horse/color/breed work for this? It would make things a lot easier anyway! LOL!

Hey, I finally found a nice roan ASB reference site. (www.equinepost.com/resources/breeds/showBreed.asp?ID=130)
Still no pics of a solid roan (blue, bay or red), but this site actually lists in the breed's colors section what April was saying, I.e. no color restrictions, less common colors are palomino, pinto, roans, ect....
Sorry about your blue roan ASB Crow's Farm Nest! But now you have 2 good links and breed possibilities, plus all of April's info, so hopefully that makes up for it. I'm also writting all this info/links down for my own babies! Whew! Now I can get my mind back to the OF Breyers LOL!
