wow, your amazing April! Thanks! Next time I have a question about anything breed/color wise, I'll ask you about it if I can't find an good link for it. I'm still confused though.....I've always been told in the past that rare breeds/colors should have links shown with them to educate the judge--since one person can't possibly know everything. My confusion comes from what is considered a "good link". I was told my different people/groups that it ideally should be a breed registry/association , aka 'official breed site' for the link to be 'valid'. Now I'm wondering if I was misinformed.... I mean can any site, esp. one with pictures showing your horse/color/breed work for this? It would make things a lot easier anyway! LOL! Stephanie. Stephanie. It depends on the judge really, as to what they'd accept as a good reference. Yes, a breed registry website would be the best as they're often the most reliable and up-to-date, although I will personally accept most sites, as long as they can be confirmed as reliable and correct. Some official breed web sites that I've come across aren't always the best - information wise, and most of the time I can find a better link somewhere else. Definately, no one person can know it all! The definition of 'rare' (strictly in my own opinion) is a bit.... subjective. Some people may not of heard of a breed/colour while the other may be very familiar with them. I guess one of the plus sides of being online while you're judging is that you can research anything you're not sure of. Most of the time if the horse is a rare breed, such as some strange breed from a tiny country, that's almost died out, ( ) the owner will be aware of it and provide some sort of reference - especially since the judge won't know what sort of faults to look for with that breed and therefor won't be able to judge it correctly. If someone has a horse with questionable colour, such as the Blue Roan ASB, it is best to provide a reference that states that they can be that colour. As a judge I would accept a link like the one you supplied, since really all you need is confirmation that all colours are accepted from a decent and reputable site. I guess if you have a horse that 'you' would personally consider a less common breed (be it a Thoroughbred or Yakut) then you'd include a reference - plus you can never give a judge too much breed information!! Sometimes, like I mentioned before, a 'rare' breed is not considered rare by the owner, therefor it really should be the responsibility of the owner to consider what others, more importantly what the judge, may know about the breed. On the other hand, an owner who isn't familiar with a more common breed may still feel the need to provide a reference. A judge won't mark you down for having references (should be the opposite really) and if, for example, you've provided a reference for a breed that they know quite well, it's not like they're being forced to look at the reference. I suppose that's the thing that causes confusion with references, you need to decide when you need them. Just like my ASH really, I didn't think I'd need any reference because they're familiar to me, but obviously it proves my point above! ;D Anyway, I seemed to have written alot and I've ended up confusing myself. I've gotten about 3 hours sleep in the last 24hrs! Sorry if this is just a load of goobly-gook, I'm exhausted and now I have to go work and feed more horses! ;D

WOW! Thanks so much!! Those 2 have never placed that well before! ;D 'DP Gotcha' is one of my favourite non-saddlebred models, I actually bought 3 of them and chose her to keep. 'DP How Original' is one of the other not-so nice ones that I repainted, and I cannot for the life of me find the other - lol! Gotcha got her name when she decided she'd try sky-diving off the top shelf, and I was lucky enough to be just in time to catch her!! ;D ;D Thanks for the awesome results! Great link too!

Oh I'm so glad you caught her! She is soooo beautiful, I have always loved her pic. I have several of this SM and none are as nice as yours...they are all lighter in coloring! LOL! I just love how she pops out from the background and how proud she looks...her markings are sooo nice, the lighting is beautiful....and the confirmation/color/gender choice is perfect in my book. I could go on and on about this photo.....
I also loved how well Whoosh's chestnut coloring stood out from his background. Very striking. Just like Gotcha, the overall photo--model, background, footing, lighting, focusing, ect was very very nice and the breed confirmation/color/gender was right on. I just liked Gotcha better than him. If either of them ever wanted to come to the States for vacation..........they could stay with me! LOL!
Gotta finish the solid colors now......
Stephanie.

April---wanted to warn you that their is a very bad link out there for Dole Gudbrandsdal horses, of which your DP Pumpkin Fizz is. DO NOT EVER hit this link: www.experiencefestival.com/dole_gudbrandsdal_-_breed_historyIt has a trojan horse virus and it almost shut down my computer this afternoon. Luckly, my husband installed some virus/spyware scan something or other last week after his father told him about it. It 'caught' the virus and deleted it, but hubby still had to run some cleaner programs during his dinner break from work. Model horses are fun, aren't they?! LOL! Stephanie.

Wow, I'm so glad you liked them that much! I wasn't sure I'd enter him since I'm not that fond of Whoosh! ;D In fact, he's one of my least favourite models - haha. (I won't tell him though! ) Thanks again for the lovely placings and comments. ;D Yikes, thanks for the warning!! I really should get some sort of protection for my computer, I think the last time it had any was when I bought it - because it came with a free 30 day trial - lol!! I haven't had a problem YET, but I know I will eventually and when I do it's going to be bad - haha! I usually had a reference with Pumpkin Fizz, did I forget to include it?
