So my old 4H club runs a little model show at their horse show each year. its not like a real show, they run on the danish system (90+pts = blue, 80-89pts = red, and <79pts = yellow) so its more like a breed inspection i guess. they use a regular show judge so thats kind of fun, since they judge them like horses and dont always know a ton about models (which is sometimes annoying, but other times cool) this year i took msotly my Stablemates since they are easier to carry a bunch heres a pic of my SMs with their ribbons! our regional and state 4H shows run a similar model show, i aged out of 4H but i used to do it every year and i think im going to get my friend to enter some of my guys this year if everything works out! i wish we had real model shows near me, but the closest is New York and i cant get out there

Agh, you have 4H Model Shows? I am SO jealous. I'm in like three 4H clubs, one for horses, and they aren't nearly as creative as this! I might have to suggest something. Well maybe not, because my club hates me, (don't ask; horse people are crazy) but still. I want to live show, but there aren't any shows around me in the winter. There's one almost 8 hours away and another one about an hour away but I missed the deadline. .________.

We Tucson showers got tired ofhaving to drive up to Pheonix, so we started our own shows. Now the Pheniox people complain about having to come down to Tucson. YOu should put togather your own show. Its really not hard... You need a classlist, I suggest starting small, maybe just a mini show. A place to hold it...try to use someone's house. Cheaper than a hotel. Ribbons. If you get commerical ones that can cost ya. My friend Pat makes neat neck ribbons for our small shows. Judges about as hard to get as Photo Show judges. I think anyone who Live Shows should judge at laest once. Its not that hard and can be fun. If anyone puts togather their own show, I'll donated something to the raffle and possible the auction. Don't be afarid to give it a try.

Cheaper than a hotel. When I lived in Southern California (MANY years ago!) we used to do small live shows all the time - usually once a month. Someone would volunteer their house, we'd set up a few tables in the back yard or garage, everybody would bring stuff for a pot-luck lunch, and we'd take turns judging. The key thing - DON'T TAKE IT TOO SERIOUSLY! The big live shows these days are SOOOOOO competative and everyone is only focused on winning - and it's just not FUN! Keep it small, start with halter only (performance entries take so much time to set up at live shows), maybe do just breed classes, or just Minis, etc. I met my best friend at a live show in someone's garage - 24 years ago! LOL! ;D Cheers, Kay

I am with Kate, we need a live show in Amarillo. Yes I moved BACK to Pampa after 6 months in Oklahoma. I told myself after that last live show there, I wasn't showing in OKC anymore. One judge put my qh pony dead last against a horse that was so flawed(scratched etc) who got first place. We talked in private over the whole thing and she explained that it was friends horse that she HAD to place first. WTF! did her friend have a gun to her head? did she pay off the judge?? Very unfair to me to put a messed up horse over a LSQ model. So my traveling days to Oklahoma are DONE. I might go down to Wichita Falls but as for out of state? Not going east. Might go west if the show isn't HUMUNGOUS.

Those shows sound like so much fun! Except I don't really have any close friends that collect Breyers, or have anything to do with horses for that matter, and my parents would never let me host a show in our backyard. And anyway, I don't even think there are any collectors near me who would come. But maybe one day. They do sound really fun.

Another thing....your show doesn't have to be a NAN quailfied show.
Tucson used to have a bunch of little fun shows. We just get together with a basic classlist, have a potluck for lunch and tons of fun.
I'd love to have something like that here, but no room, and noone close enough.

LOL I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. Did you tell the show managers? They could have at least dismissed the judge and put out a little warning - that's very unfair I wish I had live shows around here too! However, it's hours and hours and HOURs to the closest one, Detroit, and I'm out inthe middle of the wilderness anyway. Sigh. So photo shows for me!

yeah Im glad my( well now old) 4H club does them, but i wish they'd get people who actually know something to judge :/ since its held during their horse show its usually whoever is around and willing, and lately they seem to like to give the little kids the wins regardless of the quality, so this was probably my last one, but maybe ill volunteer to judge next year, at least make it fairer for everyone else

You should step up and judge a few classes. Plus explain the reason WHY!! LOL Firefly, I did talk to the show holder, but that was useless, they are best friends. So until they have shows in the Texas panhandle(I might go as far as Midland) and New Mexico, I am staying home.

That's just wrong. You don't judge your friends horse's any different from anyone else. I've actually not judged a class cause I liked my friends horse too much to be fair.

Where do you live, Firefly? Because it's the same way for me, too, and I live in Western New York.
