Congratulations and thankyou to everyone who entered the last show! This month's show will be a little different, apologies in advance for any confusion! It's going to be a bit of an experiment with a new set-up, and hopefully it won't be to bumpy. I'll do my best to explain what's going on, and please don't hesitate if you have any questions, complaints or suggestions! Okay then, this is how it's gonna work. Each Division (Breyer, CM AR, and OM) will be divided into 7 sections - which are outlined below (It's a pic, so give it time to load). The colour and gender classes in each section (1 to 4) are ONLY open to horses that are eligible for the breed classes in that section. Make sense? ;D Example: I have a Bay Thoroughbred Mare. I would enter her in Section 4 in Thoroughbreds, Bay and Mare; within Section 4. Example 2: I have a Pink Shetland Colt. He would go in Section 3 in Native Pony Breeds, Colour Not Listed and Youngstock; within Section 3. Section 5 is Performance, Section 6 is Other and Section 7 is for Special Classes. Each show will have a Feature Breed, this month's is Thoroughbred. I've changed it a little, the Feature Breed will be for all makes, not separated for divisions. You'll see what I mean when you're entering. ;D The judges will pick a champion and reserve from each section that will go into the running for Supreme. Now that I've confused the heck outta everyone..... ;D ;D ;D Entry Dates: October 12 to November 10 Judging Dates: November 11 to November 18 Judges: April & Stephanie This show is on Photobucket, all the normal ABMHA rules apply. PM me for the new password, it has CHANGED since last show! The show is open and you may start entering your pretty ponies! Can't wait to see you there!!

Glad you aren't too daunted by it all! ;D
I've modified the Feature Breed section, it has it's own colour, performance, other and gender classes. Thoroughbreds can still enter their own divisions.
I'm thinking of having a prize for the Supreme and Runner up, it depends how things go - it's still a free show! ;D ;D

Another update - I've just added Workmanship classes in the CM/AR division - it's only open to customs. The photos don't have to be show pics, they just need to be good quality photos showing the paint job/etching or whatever. ;D You may enter 2 photos of the same horse, showing different sides.

There are a fair number of Breyer's entered, but the other divisions are kinda thin on entries.
Pinewoods---PM April for the login info, I think she is keeping a list or something.
Thanks! Stephanie.

What's the difference between Native and Show ponies? I can't figure out what breed goes in which.

Hmm....good question! We will have to wait to see how April wants to go with this, but here's how I see the difference:
Take the Shetland Pony for example. There are 2 types of Shetland, the chunky, fuzzy "native" or 'classic' type that has has been around forever and more or less evolved to fit into its native habitat in Britian (I think?) and the Modern Shetland Pony (sometimes called the American Show Shetland) that is much more recent and looks and moves a lot like a National Show Horse. The breeders took native Shetlands and added other more 'showy' breeds with high action to create a new slick, sleek 'showy' Shetland Pony. This 'pony' has a look and confirmation a lot closer to a National Show Horse than the original chunky fuzzy native Shetland. Check out www. shetlandminiature.com/modern_american.asp This link (with the American Shetland Pony Club) will take you directly to the Modern Shetland page and can explain the difference between the two types better than I. (The pictures are easier to understand than my explanation.)
I just started showing with MHOSS, which is a lot like TOPSA.. MHOSS divides ponies into Natural (a.k.a. Native) Breeds under 14 hands and Show Breeds under 14 hands. MHOSS has a clear list of which pony breeds belong to which class.
April--If you like, I can type the MHOSS lists for both classes here (about 80 breeds) or you can give a quick list based on how you see the differences between the 2 pony types.

Stephanie has it right. ;D The Native classes are for 'original' pony breeds that haven't been 'created', like the classic Shetlands vs Show Shetlands. Ususally you can just do a search on a particular breed and it will tell you if it's native to somewhere. Eg. The first thing to come up when I searched for Welsh Ponies and Shetlands : The Welsh Pony designates a group of four related types of pony and horse native to Wales......The Shetland pony is a breed of pony originating in the Shetland Isles. Where as the Modern Shetlands search will tell you that classic Shetlands were the foundation stock for the development of the American Shetland, but were crossed with ponies of other breeds, including the Hackney pony, Welsh pony, and Harness Show Pony.
Stephanie, if you could, that list would be great! I did have a basic list somewhere but I haven't been able to find it. ;D

Sure, here it goes, but this list actually has the Welsh (section a, b, c) as show ponies. My guess is because they are more showy and sleek looking that the more stocky/squat classic native types. Actually, some photos of some Welsh's I have seen look as showy as National Show Ponies and Modern Shetlands. I'd love to get a real one, but........Anyway, when you look at the list, it makes sense why they divided them up like they did.
April---where do you want mixed or grade ponies though? Sleeker showy horsey looking ones with the show ponies and chunky/fuzzy/short leg looking types in with Natives?
