Yeah, I can see that. I think if I let others use my horses for pedigrees that I wouldn't insist they have any specific words (I would like them to use TF, my farm initials) but I'd let them know it was okay if they wanted to :-)

I also have a quick question about the naming of models. I tend to come up with names that I think fit each horse, and they don't adher to any breed standards. I plan on having a part of each name of the sire or dam in the foal's name, though, to help keep track of who his/her parents are. Would this count against my horses being registered with model clubs, or in being used by other people for pedigrees? Just curious. Thanks! I know this topic is a bit old, but wanted to chime in. For my stock, I like to try to stick with a breed registry's standards for naming. Some of the registries have limits on the number or type of characters in a name, naming a horse starting with a certain letter (following after a sire or dam, or a certain letter for that particular year of birth), specific combinations of the sire and dam's name, e.g., Lipizzans, etc.) There are also nuances to naming within a particular breed that are not "set in stone" requirements, but are of a general practice. For example, Polish Arabians tend to use one word names that begin with the same name as the dam. Not always the case, but it is the norm. In many breeds, if there is a farm prefix, the foals from dams of that farm will carry the farm prefix as well. That said, I do not require any specifics naming conventions for people who use my horses as their sires/dams. I have links on my site to some resources for naming rules, but that's up to each individual. I do note that there are some "Dunelm", "CDM", and "Brecon" horses out there that have been bred from my mares, and the tribute is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Kay
